Welcome to Joomla Church!

More and more, churches are finding that the internet is an extremely powerful tool for getting their message to the public, as well as providing up-to-date information and resources for current members. The problem is designing a website, not to mention learning HOW to design a website can take up valuable time - time that is better spent ministering.  The solution?  JoomlaChurch!

At JoomlaChurch, we specialize in helping churches and ministries make the most of the world wide web.  The way we accomplish this is by utilizing a content management system.  A content management system (CMS) is used to easily organize, manage and control a large collection of information, all without the knowledge of html or programming.  The use of templates, along with the CMS, provides a consistent, uniform look and feel throughout the website, all while greatly simplifying the process of editing content pieces throughout the website. If you can edit a Word document then you can manage a website!

JoomlaChurch uses Joomla!, one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet.  Joomla! is currently used all over the world for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications.  Joomla! is open source which means that the development and revision of this application is an ongoing, collaborative effort of web developers across the globe.  Because Joomla! is an “open source” application, that means not only is it constantly being improved, but it is also free to anyone who downloads it, providing savings over the cost of most web development and editing software packages.

Transcending CSS
This is my very first book review (yeaaaa!). I just got finished reading Transcending CSS: The fine art of web design and am totally blown away. I have been studying CSS for a number of years and never FULLY grasped it. For those of you that think CSS is something akin to the FBI or CSI or NSA think again... CSS stands for cascade style sheet. It is a way of eliminating all of the styling code from your HTML structure code. HTML was never intended to be pretty. It was created for geeky types that dont care how something looks but just need their online scientific documents to resemble the written outline format that they have on paper. So in the random website you might have pictures and font changes and such. In an ideal world all of that "styling" wuld be contained in a CSS file.

Registering w/Google Local Business
This morning at a Chamber of Commerce event I gave instructions for registering a business with Google. It became clear that a majority of people did not know you could do this. So I have written these detailed instructions so that you may do so. Benefits include top ranking when someone searches for someone in your business category with your zip code. In other words if I search for 36526 and web design then my name should appear at the top of the listings like at this link: Google Local Business.

The benefits of top rankings like this are increased visibility on your site, increased traffic, etc etc. Registering only takes 5 minutes so let's get started. Follow these instructions and DO IT NOW  ;-). If you have problems then just let us know. We will try to help.
